I'm putting together a DCASE grant application (due 1/15) to produce a reading of my short screenplay, with an eye to attracting investors/donors to fund the shooting of the film.
It's a sports drama about MMA and karate, and my vision for the staged reading includes showing video of choreo for key scenes, namely a couple of in-gym sparring sessions and one 2-round MMA fight. The videos would be informal, like what we shoot in class; it's just to help visualize the beats for audiences who might have trouble picturing the fights just from hearing the script.
For purposes of the budget part of the application, I'd love to hear thoughts on what preparing this might cost. I'm thinking of several different approaches, including choreographing/performing it myself with someone more experienced helping, or just having some of you pros do it for me if I have the funds…
